In this Signature Series event, we celebrate the power of gospel music with a performance by Berklee’s Reverence Gospel Choir and Overjoyed, both directed by Dennis Montgomery III and featuring a special guest performance by  Bishop Hezekiah Walker, the legendary Gospel singer, composer, and choir leader. Walker is a visiting artist-in-residence with the Africana Studies Division and pastor of Love Fellowship Tabernacle in Brooklyn, New York . He is an esteemed composer whose songs have become part of the cannon of today’s gospel music. His breakthrough album Live in Toronto hit the top of the Gospel charts.

Montgomery, a virtuoso pianist, organist and vocalist, is a professor in Berklee’s Ensemble Department who has led the choir for nearly three decades, teaching students the history and characteristics of traditional gospel music and how it has transformed over the years into the more contemporary-sounding gospel that is performed today.

This concert will also celebrate the second cohort of Berklee Gospel Hall of Fame inductees. Alumna and Berklee Reverence Gospel Choir founder Ms. Lisa Harrigan '83 will be recognized, along with Ms. Evelyn Lee and Rev. Dr. Milton Biggham.

For this concert, the Reverence Gospel Choir will be joined by Bishop Hezekiah Walker in a selection of songs celebrating gospel music, and Overjoyed will perform repertoire in honor of Rev. Milton Biggham. The concert will be hosted by Dr. Teresa Jackson and is produced by Emmett G. Price III, Tracy Gibbs, and Dennis Montgomery.
