Florence B. Price, the first female African American composer to be performed by a national symphony orchestra, is an American hero. Discover her victorious musical accomplishments in spite of the Jim Crow era, abandonment by her mother, the loss of other immediate family members, and homelessness during a period of time when the writing of music that spoke of her African heritage was not embraced by her own family members. Since the rediscovery of her music once thought lost for over 30 years, she is fast rising to fame. In addition, hear some of her music through recordings and some demonstrations of live performances.
