Applied Survey of Jazz Organ

Description

A weekly masterclass/performance focused on the history of jazz organ. Working chronologically, each week focuses on a specific organist. We will discuss and study their styles and contributions to the evolution of the jazz organ idiom. Each week students will be assigned specific recordings (or videos) for analysis and are expected to perform either a transcription or improvisation in the style of the specific organist of focus.
