Course Number

Description

The Berklee Big Band Ensemble is an advanced 17-piece jazz ensemble, primarily performing repertoire ranging from traditional to contemporary big band compositions.  All material worked on in class helps students refine skills such as : sight-reading, section playing, intonation, blend, and articulation as a whole. Listening techniques are facilitated by the instructor to enhance the collective performance of the ensemble. This ensemble has performed Duke Ellington’s Orchestra Nutcracker Suite, and with artists such as Geri Allen, Ambrose Akinmusire, Shamie Royston, Darcy James Argue, Lizz Wright, Stefon Harris, and Igmar Thomas. The goal of this ensemble is for each student to use their musicianship to tap into their individual greatness as a performer, bandleader, and person. Essentially, this ensemble will reflect a professional touring group.
