Community Service Employment

Music Clubhouse at West End House Boys and Girls Club

Community Service Employment (CSE) provides Berklee students with community-based jobs that offer professional experience, educational enrichment, and the opportunity to contribute to Boston’s multicultural communities.

CSE is a key way Berklee engages with neighborhoods across Boston. Funded by the college and the federal financial aid program, CSE places students in paid, part-time positions at partner organizations throughout the city.

Each position is designed to provide meaningful employment while enhancing students’ education, professional development, and intercultural competency. Partner organizations are selected based on their ability to offer valuable learning experiences and to positively impact the communities they serve. Every CSE placement supports both student growth and the well-being of the city Berklee calls home.

Because many positions are located off campus, the CSE pay rate is higher than most on-campus jobs.

CSE helps students:

  • Pay for education and personal expenses
  • Build a résumé
  • Develop professional references
  • Earn income while serving the community
  • Strengthen musical and creative skills
  • Deepen personal and interpersonal growth
  • Develop leadership, academic, and professional skills
