Our son has just transferred to Berklee from WA, and we joined him for the week prior to Summer Semster, attended parent orientation etc. I am thrilled to be connected with Berklee, even if only as parents. I have always been connected with music in some way, and I couldn't be more excited than to have my son studying with Berklee. We look forward with anticipation to great musical experiences. Looking forward to Friends and Family weekend in October.

Hey I am a junior at Cranston High School East in Cranston, R.I. I have been to the High School jazz fest with my school the last two years as their lead trumpet player. Last year we placed 4th and one judge placing us as 2nd. I have been researching this school and their majors recently and am falling in love. I really want to go to this school. Music is my die hard passion since i was 3 years old. I plan on majoring in music education if i ever go here. Thank you for hearing me out.

Berklee College of Music has been recognized and respected for decades. I am hoping my grandsons, Brett D'Agostini Jr. and Jordan Gregory are able to identify scholarships grants and employment that allows them the privilege and opportunity to benefit from Berklee's offerings. They are both interested in the Production and Synthesizing side of music. May drum rolls continue to announce your successes.

It was great to listen to the new songs in the Spanish songwriting competition. I run a studio and music production company in Lanzarote, Canary Islands, so I hope to find some great new songs from up-and-coming songwriters by checking out what you guys are doing at Berklee. I will be visiting the U.S. and staying in Boston over the summer for the whole of June and a bit of July, so hopefully if I make some good contacts here we can meet up and really get something going. Right now I am looking for songs for various pop r&b acts in Europe, also pop rock and ballads. Please do get in touch and lets make it happen for your songs! You can contact me on the email andy@ceolnua.com Looking forward to hearing from cool new people. Regards, Andy Reynolds | Producer | Songwriter | Composer

After being back in Australia since 1982, I do not really feel that I have left because of the inspiration of Berklee College of Music and the standard of its faculty and methods of learning. Now that I am a alumni adviser, it is great to receive feedback from some of your current majors who are nearing their degrees. Barry D Harvey

Like a lot of the others, I graduate next year in the class of 2010. My dream is to go to Berklee. I'm so into getting better as a musician and having fun with other musicians, just like me. Music is something that I want to share with others and I want others to feel through me. I don't believe music is a competition thing, it's something that everyone wants to fill. It's emotion. "Music is.. love in search of a word." I know that Berklee is interested in the great musicians to go to the school, but I think that they should choose on how much that person loves music, and how they want to grow as a musician and get better at what they love to do.

Wow, man, I miss Berklee and my Boston home! Not a day goes by that I don't think of Berklee and how lucky I was to go there - all the cool things I've done in the music biz, it blows my mind! It's been almost 10 years since I graduated (1999), and although I have a day job in the oil & gas industry, I still use both the business part of my degree and the music part all the time - I give lessons, play in bands and at festivals, judge the state flatpicking and fingerpicking contests that sends people to Winfield, KS... once you've gone to Berklee, you leave with something special that always stays with you, never leaves you. I miss it! Take care everyone, and keep rockin!

Three summers ago, our then 16 year old daughter, Alaia, attended the 5 week Summer performance program at Berklee. Now a college freshman, she has rediscovered for herself her musical purpose in life and will apply to transfer to Berklee next fall. My wife and I could not be more thrilled, as we thoroughly enjoyed visiting and listening to the performances at the end of that summer program. Your web site rocks, and I personally love the BerkleeShares.com for piano. I hope to take online courses myself in piano jazz from Berklee and visit Boston and Berklee as often as we can when Alaia returns to Berklee.
Thanks!

I love Berklee even though I'm 14 and have three and half years till I can go there. I want to go now.
I heard about Berklee from the famous band called the Jonas Brothers. If they went to college they would go to Berklee. I wanted to check it out and I automatically fell in love with it. I was searching for a music college to go to and I couldn't find one that I absolutely loved.
I'm going to go here. No matter what it takes I'm going to here. Thank you for having my search end.
Expect to see my name in lights soon. Remember the name Amanda Streck because I'm the best and Everybody's going to know my name.

I think it's one of the best ways for young musicians like me to stay focused in the music industry. Right, I play the tenor sax, soprano sax, French horn, and I'm learning how to play the guitar. Congratulations to Mr. Maurice White and Mr. Phillip Bailey on receiving honorary doctorates.
This is a well deserved honor!
I can not think of two more deserving and worthy people.
Through the guidance and direction of Mr. White, Earth, Wind & Fire's influence extends far beyond the reaches of the musical world.
Mr. Bailey's beautiful voice contributed to that outreach and made the words of their songs come to life.
The band's music and messages of brotherhood, love and peace are timeless.
Their uplifting music has done more to help and heal the world than we can imagine.
To many of us, Earth, Wind & Fire is more than a band.
It is a movement!
Congratulations to the Berklee 2008 graduates, Mr. Maurice White, Mr. Philip Bailey and all of the other honorary degree recepients.
I am so happy for you!

Hi,
I visited your campus on April 7th with my mom. We went to an information session in the morning and then a campus tour. We were so impressed. Our guide who was from South America was great and very helpful. We really loved Berklee. I hope I get accepted for the 2009-2010 school year. I haven't stopped thinking about Berklee and all of the exciting courses. I am a trumpet player with high hopes!!!! I would love to come to the summer programs: Music Production Weekend Workshop or the Music for Video Games weekend. Is it too late to sign up?

my son Robert Gillies begins at Berklee in a few weeks time; we live in Scotland, so visiting won't be easy; but Robert is very much looking forward to his time in Berklee. I have been a professional musician for 4 decades now, performed all over North America, and I must say I remember Boston as a really lovely city, so Robert will surely be very happy. It would be nice to know when parents weekends will be?

I am surprised that Joseph Koo is not on your list of Prominent Alumni. Joseph attended your school in the early 60’s. He basically dominated the popular music in Asia for the past 40 years. There is nobody in China who has not heard of Joseph Koo, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, and mainland China. You should be proud of having him as one your students.

The Women's Musicians Network concert this year was inspiring in the power of the performances. I liked Down to the Road, Christina Fabi especially Kyoko Fukuoaka, drummer. The concert was a prism into the workings of the college, how students develop through this club, and collective interaction as well as through class studies. My impression was that Berklee acknowledges pride and respect for the work of the students, and encourages women musicians, and composers especially. I loved also the inventiveness, e.g. cellos in the instrumentation, brillliance in arrangement, Manami Morita's take of Hancock's Cantaloupe Island, the power of Nili Brosh's quitar.

Great website - especially the video. I am 35, and exploring the possiblity of becoming a Music Therapist. I've already had several social work jobs, and I think helping people with music would be wonderful. I am going back to school now, and completing my lower divsion music classes at Modesto Junior College in Modesto, CA. I am doing research to figure out where to transfer afterward. My heart is not entirely set on being a music therapist. I might decide to be a music educator or major in music performance. Whatever musical path I decide to walk, I will certainly consider Berklee. Looks like a truly amazing place to attend. Also, I've visited Boston and like the city. Perhaps I will apply to Berklee in 2 years or so.

I attended Berklee, 1967-70 and began my studies when the school was located in an old YMCA building on Newbury Street. Shortly after enroling, Lawrence Berk bought the old Bostonian Hotel on Boylston and spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on improving the facilities. It worked!!! I'm retired now but I've had a long and rewarding musical career, thanks mostly to the knowledge and skills I acquired at Berklee.

I am from Taiwan, 21 years old, a passionate bassist, but unfortunately didn't accepted professional music training when I was young. I want to ask that if there is any age limitation for entering this school? And is there any guy who enters the school with little musical background? And is the school willing to train them?

Hiya! I'm an 18 yr old and I dream to be a singer! All my life I have wanted to be a part of something bigger than myself and I think that Berklee would help me fulfill that part of my life. Right now I am a part of a state-wide competition in voice at the regional level and am one of only two that made it from my school. I have a passion for singing and every aspect of music. I can only wish and pray that someday soon when I graduate this year (class of 08!!!) I can become one of the few honored people that can attend Berklee! Cheers to all!!! :)

Hello, my name is Walter Richard and I am still in high school, looking to continue to what I love to do the most, play guitar, I love guitar, and im just debating on which college or university to attend to continue my music passion. I love music and one of my goals is to be a studio producer, or make my guitar skills more better then now. I came across this site by google and im starting to have thoughts on applying here at Berklee. Though I live in Canada, I want the best music school to attend, and so far this has been a wonderful web page, It seems like a lot of fun. I just wanted to add this to the comment board, and we'll see what happens, maybe I might head over to the states. :)

I would like include some comments about my life-long childhood friend, Ms. Donna McElroy, who is a Vocals Professor at Berklee. Our friendship originated in our hometown of Louisville, Kentucky when we were wee tots and resided two houses away from each other. Our mothers are and have always been great friends. Donna was always singing around the house, inside as well as out in her backyard and at church. I could tell you many stories about Donna, but there is one that comes to mind. Donna's father, Felix Theodore McElroy, Jr., was a jazz enthusiast and played his full jazz collection on a very nice turntable, with the diamond stylus needle. Mr. McElroy was VERY particular about his turntable and albums and didn't want them touched. Donna and the rest of the McElroy children knew this as well. Well, Donna was so obsessed with music and couldn't get enough of it, no matter the consequences. Mr. McElroy sometimes would go downtown and purchase some albums, but he wouldn't always come home and immediately play them. If Donna saw them and hadn't heard the albums, she would chance sneaking and playing the albums, even though she knew better. Well, once in a blue moon, Donna would accidentally scratch one of the albums. We would look at each other and she would quietly slide it back into the record sleeve in the album cover. She would even go as far and do this while her father was outside waiting to go to work. I always thought he might double back and catch her in the act, but he never did. One day while we were back in her bedroom, Mr. McElroy decided to play one of his albums and we knew it was going to skip, because we knew Donna had scratched it with the needle. We stood there like statues and when the album begin to skip, we heard a loud bold "DONNA!!!!" I told Donna that I heard my mother calling me and immediately left the premises.
Another comfort zone was Donna's backyard, where we would be carefree, swinging high on the swings, so high that we could see the beautiful blue of the sky between our feet if we leaned far enough back while we were swinging. Donna would just sing naturally, and melodically, songs like Aretha, Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, and even Barbara Streisand, with many, many more. In the evenings in the times minus air conditioning and the windows open, Donna would be singing all types of music which we could hear while she was "busting those suds" in the kitchen, I guess to take her mind from that daily task. Music is and will always be her comfort zone. I have several of Donna's CDs and I will always know that voice. We have a common ground as friends when we hum or sing "A Taste of Honey" by Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass. We used to do the horn section while scatting and we did it magnificently! Donna, I love you and we are friends for life. May God continue to shower you with His blessings! Berklee, you have a diamond and NOT in the rough!

I'm about to be a sophmore in high school, and I play the bass. I've been seriously comtemplating whether music is where I want to go with my life (sort of leaning towards not), but then I stumbled onto the website and I'm so excited. I just want to practice my bass right now. Your bass program sounds amazing!!! Girl bass players rock!

I did the 5-week summer performance program in '05 and and majored in guitar. It was definitely a dream come true for me having come all the way from Wellington, New Zealand where Berklee is well known amongst many musicians there. I wanted to come to Berklee for two reasons. Firstly, it was purely for the music. Secondly, I wanted to be there so I could grow and expand myself on a personal level and step outside my comfort zone. I got both those things and I'm so glad I went. The school's reputation and history speaks for itself when you look at the alumni list. Quincy Jones is one of my heroes and it was an honour to study where he studied. I learned so much from all my experiences at Berklee and that'll stay with me for life. Those experiences inspired me to start my own music consulting business and do more producing. Much gratitude. :)

I am so glad to read that John McGann continued his interest (obsession) with music. He would serenade us as we waited for breakfast lunch or dinner with much fine bluegrass and of course dueling banjos on mandolin and guitar. Berklee is lucky to have him there.
John, ever think of tinkering with historical or asian stringed pluckables? China and Japan have many. Just a thought.

Hello, my name is Brandy Clark and I'm 14 years old. I've wanted to be a lyricist for as long as I can remember. I did a project on it at school. I've written a few songs and I've really grown to love writing even more. I hope to get into Berklee after I graduate in 4 years... I've also been in chorus since 5th grade (I would have started earlier but that was the lowest grade my distict does) and I'm a part of my school's "etudes" group... It's a group of students that are invited to perform at some of our town's social events. Thank you so much! Talk to you later.

I just turned twelve and have decided on what I want to do with my life. Performing music. My dad has been encouraging me to search around for colleges to get an idea, and I found you at number three on a top five music schools list. Also, this site described it as contemporary, which is a huge plus, because I have been itching to get into more modern pieces. I am definetly considering Berklee as a college.

Hey Berklee. I am a jazz vocalist from a small town in northern NY. This coming fall I may audition with you guys. Can't wait...I've been singing since I was 4 and music is the air I breathe. I've been to many area/all-state auditions and have been in every ensemble that I've tried out for. For my conference festival NYSSMA level 6 solo I had a 90 and this coming weekend I'm hoping for even higher. I take vocal and piano lessons on a weekly basis and have been in all of my school's ensembles. I received your small informational letter about you in the mail and I hope you send me more. Thanks again. Rock on Berklee!

The summer programs look great! I have been looking at several of them for my 16-year-old son (price notwithstanding!), but have found that many of the programs he's interested in (guitar, composition, songwriting) are offered in mid- to late- August. Unfortunately, we can't afford the 5 week program and flights, living in the South.
When I was growing up, public schools didn't start back until September, but our kids now start back in early August. Since my son will be a HS junior taking AP classes, I'm afraid to keep him out of school a whole week.
Please reconsider the "summer" dates in future years to June and July-ish as opposed to August. We stil hope he can attend at some point in the future! Thanks!

This article appeared in the Boston Globe and angered me:
"Once upon a time, when the Ritz was where it belonged on the Public Garden, and where the Taj Boston now reigns, the hotel had a storied history as a mecca of good music, going all the way back to Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and a raft of fine local musicians more recently. Now the Ritz has moved on, literally and figuratively. Rooms start at $629 a night and top out at $4,500. And the lounge band makes 100 bucks a night.
It's a great country, as my friend Jack Craig used to say, for some Americans."
If Berklee kids are really getting taken for $100 for a 4 hour gig, someone should tell them to stand up for themselves! Jesus! Gives Berklee a bad name too!

As parents, we were really happy to see different stories on the latest Berklee website and newsletter.
Nowadays, not all students come to Berklee to be rockers or members of bands. The story on the composers and film scorers was really important to your other students. More articles on music business, film/video scoring, music educaion and music therapy please.

Greetings. I met a recruiter from Berklee at a college fair in Birmingham, AL and I got some information about the school. At the time, I did not want to go because it was too far but I have considered coming there after my undergrad degree in Music Education. From viewing the website, I see that it would be a good school for me. I play trombone at Carol W. Hayes High School in Birmingham, AL and I look forward to meeting some current students and alumni of Burklee College of Music. God bless.

I have a teacher who graduated from Berklee who's called Guillermo and he's an excellent guitar teacher. Go Berklee!

P.S. Guys, once you find something you truly love don't ever let it go. A life without passion is no life at all. Give in to your dreams and work towards them. Don't ever give up on your life's dream when the open door could be right around the corner. Take me for example when you play guitar six hours a day and it feels like the end when you have to put it down at the end of the day you know you've found what you truly love. Six hours a day is a lot to give up over a six year period. I will never give up on my dreams and neither should anybody with the passion and love for their craft. Thanks for hearing me.

Hello all, fellow inspiring musician here. 17 years old, been playing guitar for the last 5 1/2. looked at the Berklee website... loved it. Keep providing the good information and education. There need to be more schools that teach the ways of guitar and other instruments. Your supurb skill in teaching the music profession has not gone unheard in my ears and with a little luck I may be attending your fine school. Love the love for the musicians. Keep it going.

Hi. I'm Holly and I want to tell you my story. I am 13 years old but I already know that I totally want to go to Berklee. I started playing guitar in January of '06. I have already played in front of large crowds and I have won a few competitions. A few weeks after I started playing I auditioned for a modeling/acting class and made it. I have not done many jobs but the class boosted my confidence, taught me how to look like a star and helped me with stage fright. I still have more to work on before I can play awesome but I'm working on it. So I'll be seeing you all in 6 years!!!!!!!!!

Hi. Since I was eleven I've wanted to attend Berklee. I have education in jazz playing Herbie Hancock, John Scofield, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and John Mayer Trio. I love playing blues and jazz. I am from Peru. This year I will finish high school, and want to study performance and contemporary writing and production. I have a TOEFL certificate, and I'm in the process of filling the application. I heard that getting in is easy, but getting a scholarship isn't. Someone told me the audition was only to put the student in low level, intermediate, and high, but I was wondering if it was true.

My story: I'm a self-taught composer, I never really had a music teacher in my whole life until now. I can't read notes. I had no harmony lessons. I applied three times to Berklee. I tried to get to the college for seven years. When others told me: "Mark, you're crazy, do something else," I tried again. And finally I'm in now. I received my acceptance to the college this week.
I just want to write it down here to tell you all out there that you should never quit with something that did grow naturally in you. How long it ever takes, until you are allowed to study it. Because this is your talent, your nature.
It is NOT important how old we are, what success we will have, how much money we will earn. There is only one important thing in life, and that is our self-discovery.
I waited many years for my dreams. And when there is 12 years old guy and 40 years old guy studying music in the same class room at Berklee. There is not really a difference, because everything follows it's nature and every man follows it's own rythm.
Best wishes to all of you
Mark C. Mueller

Currently in my first year of high school, I have started to think about what I want to do with my life after I graduate. I've always been told I could be whatever I wanted, and some of my younger ambitions were more academic or related to visual art. But Berklee, well of course I'd thought about it but it was just a dream of mine. As a jazz pianist, a concert clarinist and a learning guitarist...Berklee seems like paradise!Though my parents urge me to pursue more practical careers and continue piano in my spare time, I now realize I want to be professional, and make music at this wonderful school. As my favorite song says, sometimes you just have to "Cast Your Fate to the Wind" and follow your dreams.

You have a splendid Music Department, that services so many students. Prof. Jonathan Holland hails from my hometown of Flint, Michigan, and was a member of my church. Jonathan's father gave me his website, which I will certainly pass on to schools here in Flint, which has a good music base program. I am part of a singing group that does '60s Motown music venues. We do have a site(Velvelettes) if you would like to view the bios.
Again, keep the music flowing.

We are parents of a daughter there, now in her 6th semester. We are happy to see the implementation of the new peer advsior program, for which our daughter was selected. We are also happy to see that a "Berklee Cafe" of some sort is finally coming on campus to have a place for students to gather and feel a part of the "campus" similar to other college enviroments. The only thing I am waiting for is some sort of exercise forum to build healthy bodies along with the creative mind and spirit. Lastly we are hopeful that career building and networking will be a part of graduation as our students go out into the world to find jobs in the marketplace and that they have the support from Berklee to be successful!

I'm the parent of a rising star and prospective student at Berklee. My son's first music teacher (a former Berklee student) recognized that he had natural born talent when he was just a young tyke, at the tender age of 7. He even went as far as to say "No matter what you plan for this boy's future, he's going to be a musician!" My son, Michael Christman, now a senior at Nashville School of the Arts, is in pursuit of fulfilling this prophecy. Of all the colleges and universities that we've researched, Berklee offers the ideal opportunities for him to realize his potential in an environment that exemplifies the world of music. I hope to someday visit this planet and experience its evolution firsthand.

I really would love to attend the Berklee School of Music! I love music, I sing in my free time and I've been told that I have a voice of an angel. If I could have the chance to prove myself, i would be so grateful!!! Singing is my passion and will always be!!

I'm 10 years old and I can't wait until I go to a music college. I'm thinking about going to Berklee. I think I have the talent of singing to go anywhere but I chose Berklee.

I learned about this school at a college fair last year. I have been looking to go here after I graduate high school or after I go to another college. I am looking foward to being a student here.

I had taken drum lessons from John C. McCaffrey for two years. I was a 13-year-old beginner—in my 16th year John (with his knowledge of Berklee) and got me a scholarship for drums. Thanks John. I'll never forget you. I'm now on tour with the Vans Warped Tour!

I wish there was a summer program suitable for jazz flutists...

Maybe one day with God's help, my dream of attending Berklee College of Music will be fulfilled. I play electric bass guitar, and have been lucky enough to take lessons from one of the best bass players in the world. Berklee is still a dream!

Thank you for the opportunity to audition and interview in November. Since that time, I cannot stop thinking about Berklee.
Not to copy John Lennon, but . . .
"I hope I passed the audition".
I cannot wait until January. I am so anxious to know.
This is ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS!!

Hello, I am writing this message because I really love this college. The day that I went to my interview the only thing that came to my mind was to look myself there, inside, and doing my dreams true. I hope everything will come true.

Had lots of fun at the BeanTown Jazz Fest. Must keep doing it. Great seeing my son under the high profile tent, great venders, good food. This is how it should always be.

Hi! I'll be in Boston on October 6th to attend Al Di Meola's concert (Berklee Performan ce Center). I'm surprised that it's not sold out yet, because when he comes to Montreal the tickets are sold quite fast. Anyway, there's still nice seats available and as an exercise, the guitar students here should attend this concert. He's one of the best guitarists ever! :) The only risk you entail is an A on your evaluation.

I FELL IN LOVE AT BERKLEE, but it wasn't with a girl. I spent most of my summer there at various programs. (Songwriting and Stage Performance workshops and the 5 week program). I met some incredible people to say the least. The school is a musician's paradise and the teachers are amazing. I had the pleasure to spend quality time with instructors Darcel Wilson and Livingston Taylor. I will never forget it and am excited to see what my future there holds. Shout out to Fisher.

I went to summer guitar sessions for the second time this year. I hope to go full time to Berklee starting in 2008 after I finish up standard business school education.

Always great to see what's happening at my old Alma Mater online! I'm checking in from the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas where I was with the Hungarian tenor sax star Tony Lakatos this week and today we fly to San Francisco where I am doing my daily CBS Radio show on KYCY/KYOU 1550 AM. Next month we are back in Shanghai China for the 5th Music China event.
Keep up the great work!

I just completed the five week summer program; what an incredible time. I met great friends, teachers, and musicians, but most of all I learned more about myself and my music then I have in 8 years. Thank you Berklee.

Would it be possible to post the names of the scholarship winners for the Five-Week Summer Performance Program at the Blowout Awards Night? I would be very interested in seeing their names, categories of competition, and state or country performers were from.
An interested music lover and grandmother.

I attended the Gospel Workshop this year. I found it to be an amazing expierience. My teachers Alisa Miles (Vocal Technique) and Jeff Ramsey (Music Theory and Small Ensemble) were excellant. Dennis Montgomery (History of Gospel Music and Large Ensemble), well what can I say. He was amazing as always. I thought I knew a lot about the history of gospel music until I took his class. I was impressed with the respect and the support the students showed towards one another. I look forward to next year.

This website is very informative, and 'sells' Berklee very well. I am a prospective student and I completely bought all of it. The passion of music and detailed majors sound extremely appealing...

Berklee College of Music impresses me with its level of dedication to contemporary music, and the fields open to us musicians out there excite me!
The website was informative, if the format a little too small and dry? (But that is not a criticism coming from me, I guess).
I hope to become a student there in future!
Thanks!

Hi thanks for the insights into Berklee. A tutor of mine here in New Zealand, Andy Mauafua, enrolled for summer school last year and he said it was the single most amazing time of his musical life. He even made it into the top fusion band. Also gaining a scholarship to study there. Hopefully Berklee is in the cards for myself, maybe after I'm done here. Much!

HEY! Can't wait to get to Berklee in just a few short years! Summer programs next year I hope! See you then.

I just recently attended your Gospel Workshop and I don't know how to thank you enough. It was enlightening, inspiring, and richly informative. I'm already planning on coming next year and 50 years from now (if I'm able?).
One suggestion: it would be beneficial for your students if you could keep ALL of your classes in one building.
