As Joel's father, I feel very proud and grateful having him studying at Berklee. Today I am prouder knowing he is performing his own composition at the BPC in the Spring Song festival. Living in Colombia as I am, just give me the opportunity to send him the best energy, wishes, and all my heart. Thank you all, and have fun for me.

Congratulations to Mr. Maurice White and Mr. Phillip Bailey on receiving honorary doctorates.
This is a well deserved honor!
I can not think of two more deserving and worthy people.
Through the guidance and direction of Mr. White, Earth, Wind & Fire's influence extends far beyond the reaches of the musical world.
Mr. Bailey's beautiful voice contributed to that outreach and made the words of their songs come to life.
The band's music and messages of brotherhood, love and peace are timeless.
Their uplifting music has done more to help and heal the world than we can imagine.
To many of us, Earth, Wind & Fire is more than a band.
It is a movement!
Congratulations to the Berklee 2008 graduates, Mr. Maurice White, Mr. Philip Bailey and all of the other honorary degree recepients.
I am so happy for you!

Hi,
I visited your campus on April 7th with my mom. We went to an information session in the morning and then a campus tour. We were so impressed. Our guide who was from South America was great and very helpful. We really loved Berklee. I hope I get accepted for the 2009-2010 school year. I haven't stopped thinking about Berklee and all of the exciting courses. I am a trumpet player with high hopes!!!! I would love to come to the summer programs: Music Production Weekend Workshop or the Music for Video Games weekend. Is it too late to sign up?

my son Robert Gillies begins at Berklee in a few weeks time; we live in Scotland, so visiting won't be easy; but Robert is very much looking forward to his time in Berklee. I have been a professional musician for 4 decades now, performed all over North America, and I must say I remember Boston as a really lovely city, so Robert will surely be very happy. It would be nice to know when parents weekends will be?

I am surprised that Joseph Koo is not on your list of Prominent Alumni. Joseph attended your school in the early 60’s. He basically dominated the popular music in Asia for the past 40 years. There is nobody in China who has not heard of Joseph Koo, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, and mainland China. You should be proud of having him as one your students.

It seems like Berklee finally wants to give the oportunity for a good career in music to the European people without the necesity of going to the USA. Soooooo Happy!!!!!!!! Regards, Dani.

The Women's Musicians Network concert this year was inspiring in the power of the performances. I liked Down to the Road, Christina Fabi especially Kyoko Fukuoaka, drummer. The concert was a prism into the workings of the college, how students develop through this club, and collective interaction as well as through class studies. My impression was that Berklee acknowledges pride and respect for the work of the students, and encourages women musicians, and composers especially. I loved also the inventiveness, e.g. cellos in the instrumentation, brillliance in arrangement, Manami Morita's take of Hancock's Cantaloupe Island, the power of Nili Brosh's quitar.

I am a 16 year old girl from Greene County Georgia. I would like to participate in one of the summer classes but I received the brochure too late and can not afford it. Maybe some day I would be able to. I really love to sing and when I do it I put my all into it. When I sing it's like my troubles go away. At Berklee it seems like I can advance in this area. I would love to come and visit this school someday.

Great website - especially the video. I am 35, and exploring the possiblity of becoming a Music Therapist. I've already had several social work jobs, and I think helping people with music would be wonderful. I am going back to school now, and completing my lower divsion music classes at Modesto Junior College in Modesto, CA. I am doing research to figure out where to transfer afterward. My heart is not entirely set on being a music therapist. I might decide to be a music educator or major in music performance. Whatever musical path I decide to walk, I will certainly consider Berklee. Looks like a truly amazing place to attend. Also, I've visited Boston and like the city. Perhaps I will apply to Berklee in 2 years or so.

Hi. I'm a freshman in high school, but I have wanted to go to Berklee for years. It looks like such an amazing school! I've played the cello for 9 years and the piano for 10 and I am considering a degree in Music Therapy and I've noticed that a lot of schools don't offer degrees in Music Therapy! But I found out about you, and I think it's spectacular that you offer so many Music Therapy degrees! Hope to see you in 4 years! :)

I attended Berklee, 1967-70 and began my studies when the school was located in an old YMCA building on Newbury Street. Shortly after enroling, Lawrence Berk bought the old Bostonian Hotel on Boylston and spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on improving the facilities. It worked!!! I'm retired now but I've had a long and rewarding musical career, thanks mostly to the knowledge and skills I acquired at Berklee.

I came across this site by google and im starting to have thoughts on applying here at Berklee. Though I live in Canada, I want the best music school to attend, and so far this has been a wonderful web page, It seems like a lot of fun. I would like include some comments about my life-long childhood friend, Ms. Donna McElroy, who is a Vocals Professor at Berklee. Our friendship originated in our hometown of Louisville, Kentucky when we were wee tots and resided two houses away from each other. Our mothers are and have always been great friends. Donna was always singing around the house, inside as well as out in her backyard and at church. I could tell you many stories about Donna, but there is one that comes to mind. Donna's father, Felix Theodore McElroy, Jr., was a jazz enthusiast and played his full jazz collection on a very nice turntable, with the diamond stylus needle. Mr. McElroy was VERY particular about his turntable and albums and didn't want them touched. Donna and the rest of the McElroy children knew this as well. Well, Donna was so obsessed with music and couldn't get enough of it, no matter the consequences. Mr. McElroy sometimes would go downtown and purchase some albums, but he wouldn't always come home and immediately play them. If Donna saw them and hadn't heard the albums, she would chance sneaking and playing the albums, even though she knew better. Well, once in a blue moon, Donna would accidentally scratch one of the albums. We would look at each other and she would quietly slide it back into the record sleeve in the album cover. She would even go as far and do this while her father was outside waiting to go to work. I always thought he might double back and catch her in the act, but he never did. One day while we were back in her bedroom, Mr. McElroy decided to play one of his albums and we knew it was going to skip, because we knew Donna had scratched it with the needle. We stood there like statues and when the album begin to skip, we heard a loud bold "DONNA!!!!" I told Donna that I heard my mother calling me and immediately left the premises.
Another comfort zone was Donna's backyard, where we would be carefree, swinging high on the swings, so high that we could see the beautiful blue of the sky between our feet if we leaned far enough back while we were swinging. Donna would just sing naturally, and melodically, songs like Aretha, Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, and even Barbara Streisand, with many, many more. In the evenings in the times minus air conditioning and the windows open, Donna would be singing all types of music which we could hear while she was "busting those suds" in the kitchen, I guess to take her mind from that daily task. Music is and will always be her comfort zone. I have several of Donna's CDs and I will always know that voice. We have a common ground as friends when we hum or sing "A Taste of Honey" by Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass. We used to do the horn section while scatting and we did it magnificently! Donna, I love you and we are friends for life. May God continue to shower you with His blessings! Berklee, you have a diamond and NOT in the rough!

Although I never attended Berklee, (I would have loved to, but life has a way of getting in the way sometimes),
I was very fortunate to have played in a Berklee Ensemble at the Performance Center. It is a great institution. Very much liked reading about you and your work....much luck for the future, look forward to hearing your music.

I went to Berklee from '85 to '88 and it was a great experience to me.
All staff and teatcher were of the best category.
You can learn everything from jazz to classical and pop music with the best assistance; all it requires is your own will!
Good luck for you new students. You will certainly be in good hands.
Congratulations Berklee people! I send you all my best regards.

I did the 5-week summer performance program in '05 and and majored in guitar. It was definitely a dream come true for me having come all the way from Wellington, New Zealand where Berklee is well known amongst many musicians there. I wanted to come to Berklee for two reasons. Firstly, it was purely for the music. Secondly, I wanted to be there so I could grow and expand myself on a personal level and step outside my comfort zone. I got both those things and I'm so glad I went. The school's reputation and history speaks for itself when you look at the alumni list. Quincy Jones is one of my heroes and it was an honour to study where he studied. I learned so much from all my experiences at Berklee and that'll stay with me for life. Those experiences inspired me to start my own music consulting business and do more producing. Much gratitude. :)

I am so glad to read that John McGann continued his interest (obsession) with music. He would serenade us as we waited for breakfast lunch or dinner with much fine bluegrass and of course dueling banjos on mandolin and guitar. Berklee is lucky to have him there.
John, ever think of tinkering with historical or asian stringed pluckables? China and Japan have many. Just a thought.

I've written a few songs and I've really grown to love writing even more. I hope to get into Berklee after I graduate in 4 years... I've also been in chorus since 5th grade (I would have started earlier but that was the lowest grade my distict does) and I'm a part of my school's "etudes" group... I just turned twelve and have decided on what I want to do with my life. Performing music. My dad has been encouraging me to search around for colleges to get an idea, and I found you at number three on a top five music schools list. Also, this site described it as contemporary, which is a huge plus, because I have been itching to get into more modern pieces. I am definetly considering Berklee as a college.

Hey Berklee. I am a jazz vocalist from a small town in northern NY. This coming fall I may audition with you guys. Can't wait...I've been singing since I was 4 and music is the air I breathe. I've been to many area/all-state auditions and have been in every ensemble that I've tried out for. For my conference festival NYSSMA level 6 solo I had a 90 and this coming weekend I'm hoping for even higher. I take vocal and piano lessons on a weekly basis and have been in all of my school's ensembles. I received your small informational letter about you in the mail and I hope you send me more. Thanks again. Rock on Berklee!

The summer programs look great! I have been looking at several of them for my 16-year-old son (price notwithstanding!), but have found that many of the programs he's interested in (guitar, composition, songwriting) are offered in mid- to late- August. Unfortunately, we can't afford the 5 week program and flights, living in the South.
When I was growing up, public schools didn't start back until September, but our kids now start back in early August. Since my son will be a HS junior taking AP classes, I'm afraid to keep him out of school a whole week.
Please reconsider the "summer" dates in future years to June and July-ish as opposed to August. We stil hope he can attend at some point in the future! Thanks!

I am so excited to look up more and see what you guys have to offer. I am 12 years old. I know I am a little young. Still I am so excited to come. I am a singer and I love to sing 24/7. I also play tenor saxophone in marching band and concert band. I go to school in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. Thanks for listening and I hope I can see you in the future!!!!

Are rappers allowed at this school? Or is it just vocalists and musicians only?

Hello, I am a junior in high school who has been looking forward to getting into this school for a long time. I have heard about someone I knew making it into that school after an audition. I just want to know what type of new requirements are you looking for in students wanting to enter your school.

I love the We are all Connected cd regarding the genocide in Sudan. I think that contact information should be posted. Many listeners want to know the lyrics to the song.

Salutations and congratulations. I recently had the pleasure to meet my grandson again who I have not met for many years due to our geographical difference (Australia/USA). Apart from producing world class musicians it is obvious you also produce fine young men and no doubt women. I am needless to say a very proud grandfather of one of your students. Once again congratulations on Berklee's great achievments in both music and people.

I got accepted to Berklee as well. I start May 23. Does anyone else start then?

This article appeared in the Boston Globe and angered me:
"Once upon a time, when the Ritz was where it belonged on the Public Garden, and where the Taj Boston now reigns, the hotel had a storied history as a mecca of good music, going all the way back to Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and a raft of fine local musicians more recently. Now the Ritz has moved on, literally and figuratively. Rooms start at $629 a night and top out at $4,500. And the lounge band makes 100 bucks a night.
It's a great country, as my friend Jack Craig used to say, for some Americans."
If Berklee kids are really getting taken for $100 for a 4 hour gig, someone should tell them to stand up for themselves! Jesus! Gives Berklee a bad name too!

I received info on the five-week program, but the price is way too high. I'm not asking for help with tuition because even if I was asked to pay only a fourth of the payment, I wouldn't be able to do so. I am saying that I am still interested in more information on your school (i.e. majors, minors, tuition, etc).

I can't wait until next summer for the 12 week guitar program. All I do is play guitar 5 to 6 hours a day. I'll be entering Berklee in September 2009. I am just grateful there is a school with this reputation and hard work.

As parents, we were really happy to see different stories on the latest Berklee website and newsletter.
Nowadays, not all students come to Berklee to be rockers or members of bands. The story on the composers and film scorers was really important to your other students. More articles on music business, film/video scoring, music educaion and music therapy please.

Tonight, the decision of my life will be revealed: the admission decision. My entire life will be saved in a way and I'll be doing what I was born for: music. If I'm admitted to Berklee...

Greetings. I met a recruiter from Berklee at a college fair in Birmingham, AL and I got some information about the school. At the time, I did not want to go because it was too far but I have considered coming there after my undergrad degree in Music Education. From viewing the website, I see that it would be a good school for me. I play trombone at Carol W. Hayes High School in Birmingham, AL and I look forward to meeting some current students and alumni of Burklee College of Music. God bless.

I think Berklee College of Music is a very cool college. I think any young musician like me is looking to go to that college. I am in a Berklee program and it really helps me a lot as a musician. I have a teacher who graduated from Berklee who's called Guillermo and he's an excellent guitar teacher. Go Berklee!

P.S. Guys, once you find something you truly love don't ever let it go. A life without passion is no life at all. Give in to your dreams and work towards them. Don't ever give up on your life's dream when the open door could be right around the corner. Take me for example when you play guitar six hours a day and it feels like the end when you have to put it down at the end of the day you know you've found what you truly love. Six hours a day is a lot to give up over a six year period. I will never give up on my dreams and neither should anybody with the passion and love for their craft. Thanks for hearing me.

Hello all, fellow inspiring musician here. 17 years old, been playing guitar for the last 5 1/2. looked at the Berklee website... loved it. Keep providing the good information and education. There need to be more schools that teach the ways of guitar and other instruments. Your supurb skill in teaching the music profession has not gone unheard in my ears and with a little luck I may be attending your fine school. Love the love for the musicians. Keep it going.

Hi. I'm Holly and I want to tell you my story. I am 13 years old but I already know that I totally want to go to Berklee. I started playing guitar in January of '06. I have already played in front of large crowds and I have won a few competitions. A few weeks after I started playing I auditioned for a modeling/acting class and made it. I have not done many jobs but the class boosted my confidence, taught me how to look like a star and helped me with stage fright. I still have more to work on before I can play awesome but I'm working on it. So I'll be seeing you all in 6 years!!!!!!!!!

If I weren't a biology major in Baltimore I'd be a composition major at Berklee.

I love R&B, by that I mean, Rock and Blues, from Albert King to Clapton to James Marshall Hendrix to Zeppelin.
