Message from Board Chair Susan Whitehead

Dear members of the Berklee community,

I am delighted to announce that Martin (Marty) Mannion, vice chair of the Berklee Board of Trustees, will lead the search committee to find the next president of Berklee. Marty, who has long been a trusted and respected Berklee trustee, has a wealth of experience with executive searches in both higher education and in the business world. Under his leadership, we are forming a broad-based search committee of trustees, faculty, staff, and students, and are in the process of selecting a search firm to assist us in finding Berklee’s next president. At the end of the search, a candidate will then be recommended for a vote of approval by the Board of Trustees.

For this to be a success, we need to hear from you, the Berklee community. A series of public forums will be scheduled over the next few months so that we can hear directly from you, our students, faculty, staff, and alumni. We have also set up a dedicated webpage as a way to hear from you directly. We will stay in touch with you throughout the search, keeping you informed of its progress through regular updates in your respective community newsletters. We welcome your input to help determine the qualities we seek in our next president, any candidates you would like for us to consider, and anything else of significance in this important search.

My greatest satisfaction as chair of the board has been getting to know this community. In my many years as part of the Berklee family, I have had the pleasure to meet with many of you. Under Roger Brown’s leadership, Berklee is a dynamic place where good things happen—where students thrive, where new ideas come to life, and where there is a shared commitment to the value of the arts.

Berklee’s many achievements under Roger’s leadership are set forth in our public announcement, so I won’t recount them here except to acknowledge my admiration and respect for his principled and forward-looking leadership.

We, your Board of Trustees, look forward to working with you, our extraordinary community, as we work to find our next exceptional leader for Berklee.

Sincerely,

Susan Whitehead
Chair, Berklee Board of Trustees
