Tom Riley’s career at Berklee began in 1986 as director in the office of the president. In this capacity, he worked closely with President Lee Berk to expand the college’s reach by laying the groundwork for the Berklee International Network, Berklee City Music, Berklee in L.A., and a range of summer programs.
From 1995-2003, as assistant vice president for Operations, Riley worked as Executive Vice President Gary Burton’s senior staff advisor, and led the strategic planning process. During this time, he assumed leadership of college communications, oversaw the launch of Berklee.edu, managed Berklee Press, and was part of the team that planned the online college.
As vice president for external affairs and communications, Riley provides strategic direction for brand management, marketing and communications, public relations, social media, digital strategy, and Berklee Presents.
Riley was previously employed as a director at Market Facts, Inc. in Chicago, where his market research clients included Coca-Cola, Volkswagen, and the Ford Motor Company, among others. Prior to this, he worked professionally as a musician (saxophone and arranger). He holds a bachelor of music degree from Berklee College of Music, and an MBA from Miami University.
