Hassell McClellan

Biography

A member of the faculty at Boston College's Carroll School of Management from 1984 to 2013, Hassell H. McClellan is associate professor (retired) of finance and policy. He also served as the graduate/associate dean of the Carroll School of Management from 1996 to 2000, with responsibility for leadership of the school's M.B.A., Master of Science in Finance, doctoral programs, and graduate certificate programs. He has been a visiting professor at the University of Strasbourg, France, and ESADE Business School in Barcelona, Spain, and a faculty member at Harvard Business School. Previously McClellan served as a member of Berklee’s Presidential Advisory Council, and he has also been an overseer of the Museum of Fine Arts and a member of the Board of Trustees of Fisk University and Lesley University.

McClellan is chair of the boards of John Hancock Funds and John Hancock GA Mortgage Trust. He also serves as lead independent director and chair of the governance committee of the Barnes Group, a diversified global industrial solutions and manufacturing company, and is an independent trustee of Virtus Mutual Funds. He has been a member of the board of directors of Delta Dental of Massachusetts and chair of the board of Dentaquest Ventures.

McClellan specializes in strategic management and has a Doctor of Business Administration from the Harvard Business School, an M.B.A. in finance and marketing from the University of Chicago, and a bachelor's degree in economics and mathematics from Fisk University. He's the author of several articles and case studies, as well as a book on the banking industry, Managing One-Bank Holding Companies.
