John Powell is an English-born, Los Angeles-based composer, best known for his scores for animated films including the Academy Award-nominated score for How to Train Your Dragon, Rio, Shrek (cocomposed with Harry Gregson-Williams), and the Ice Age films. In addition to composing film music for animations, Powell has also scored live-action films, such as the Bourne films, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and The Italian Job. Powell continues to be a prolific composer in the modern film-scoring community and is a true master of orchestration and thematic composition.
