Business of Hip-Hop/Urban Music Symposium: A Rap with Talib Kweli

Berklee’s annual Business of Hip-Hop/Urban Music Symposium: A Rap with Talib Kweli, features an interview with the iconic hip-hop artist.

September 8, 2014

Iconic recording artist, activist, and entrepreneur Talib Kweli will visit Berklee October 6, as part of the Music Business/Management Department's eighth annual Business of Hip-Hop/Urban Music Symposium at the Berklee Performance Center. This year, in addition to discussing general urban music business practices, the event will focus on the fusion of business and social consciousness.

Kweli will be interviewed by Berklee faculty member and alumnus Brian “Raydar” Ellis about the state of hip-hop and urban music. Kweli’s latest release, Prisoner of Conscious, features Busta Rhymes, Melanie Fiona, Abby Dobson, and Kendrick Lamar, to name a few.

Students will also engage with prominent Berklee alumni, Grammy winner Keith Harris and label professionals Gena Camarena and invited guest, Nomadic Wax founder Ben Herson, along with guest artists Akrobatik and MC Kabir, at a panel discussion earlier in the day. Facilitated by alumna Kindra Parker (the management force behind Dwele), the panel will focus on entrepreneurship, the music industry, social causes, and the philanthropic mindset.
