Annual Jazz at the Fort Concert Features Vocalist Diane Richardson

The annual Jazz at the Fort concert brings top Berklee faculty and alumni jazz artists to Marcella Park in Roxbury.

July 26, 2013

Berklee College of Music and the Boston Parks and Recreation Department’s ParkARTS program present the free annual Jazz at the Fort concert featuring Voice Department assistant chair and jazz vocalist Diane Richardson on Sunday, August 4 at 5:00 p.m. at Roxbury’s Marcella Park. Richardson will perform with pianist John Kordalewski, drummer Yoron Israel, bassist John Lockwood, and saxophonist Lance Bryant.

Richardson’s melodies and lyrics radiate honesty and warmth. Her performance style includes a nod to jazz traditionalists and an appreciation of such cerebral composers as Charles Mingus, Abbey Lincoln, and Wayne Shorter, among others. She holds a B.S. in economics from the University of Maryland, a B.M. in professional music from Berklee College of Music, a M.M. from Boston Conservatory, and a D.M.A. in jazz studies from the University of Southern California. The concert is part of Berklee’s Summer in the City series, which includes more than 80 free outdoor events made possible by presenting sponsor Natixis Global Asset Management, which is committed to preserving cultural experience through the power of music.

In the event of rain, the concert will be held at Roxbury Community College’s Mainstage Theater in the Media Arts Center. Marcella Park is located at the corner of Marcella and Highland Streets in Roxbury, Massachusetts. Folding chairs, blankets, and picnics are encouraged. The park is wheelchair accessible. For more information, visit berklee.edu/events/jazz-fort or call 617 747-6057.
