Alumni, Berklee Educator Among Latin Grammy Award Nominees
Alumni and a Berklee educator are among the 15th annual Latin Grammy Award nominees.
Alumna Marian G. Villota '14, who majored in music production and engineering and contemporary writing and production, is nominated in the Best Engineered Album category for Javier Limón’s Promesas De Tierra. Limon, Berklee Mediterranean Music Institute artistic director and seven-time Latin Grammy winner, is also nominated for engineering the album. In all, 11 denizens of Berklee's community are nominated for 12 awards.
Alumni also received nominations for producing, engineering, mastering, and mixing in the top two categories. Record of the Year includes nominations for five alumni for their work on tracks by Camila, Jorge Drexler, Enrique Iglesias, and Carlos Vives. The Album of the Year category includes nominations for two alumni who were behind the boards for Calle 13’s Multi_Viral and Carlos Vives's Más + Corazón Profundo.
Under Best Latin Jazz Album, Colombian electric bassist Juan Garcia-Herreros '96, who performs as Snow Owl, is nominated for his latest release, Normas. Two recordings by alumni are nominated for Best Latin Children's Album, one by Marta Gomez, the other by Ben Gundersheimer, known to fans as Mr. G.
Winners will be announced in a live broadcast of the Latin Grammy Awards from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Thursday, November 20, on Univision.
Twenty-six Berklee alumni have received 75 Latin Grammy Awards since the Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences founded the awards in 2000.
