"I started out playing trumpet in the school band. I began playing guitar at 12 after seeing the Beatles on TV; that spurred my interest in performing and music."

"I liked the expressiveness of the guitar. You can get so many different sounds out of it. It's not like the piano or saxophone, which has one basic sound; the guitar really has many, from acoustic guitar to electric guitar. And then you have all sorts of electronic effects you can add to it, which changes the colors of the sounds."

"As my guitar playing progressed, my influences ranged from B.B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughan,  Jeff Beck, and Jimi Hendrix, to Wes Montgomery, Pat Metheny, and Mike Stern."

"I perform around the Boston area with various groups, everything from blues to jazz to rock. I've also toured the United States, Mexico, Canada, and New Zealand with my own group and as a sideman with others. Performing gives me the chance to apply some of the things that I teach, and to find ways to incorporate them."

"It's always a rush to be on stage, to be performing and creating music live. I also do a lot of recording too, which I enjoy doing, but playing live is a different experience."

"I find that teaching helps me as a player. I'm not just teaching students; I also learn things as I'm teaching. Sometimes they'll see things that I might not look at the same way. Maybe a different approach to using a solo technique, whether it be scales or chords, something I might not have looked at it in the same way before."
