Berklee Today

Nashville Notes

Since my last column, members of the Nashville Berklee Alumni Chapter have been engaged in a range of activities. For the third year in a row, the alumni will be organizing a team for the annual Hands On Nashville Day in October, one of the city's largest one-day volunteer fundraisers. Each year over 1,500 volunteers do painting, landscaping, cleaning and repairing dozens of Metropolitan public schools. The work of these volunteers makes classrooms and playgrounds happier and safer. Combined volunteer efforts generally save the district over $72,000 annually. The Nashville Alumni Chapter is pleased to be part of this event.

Here's what some individual members have been up to. Laura Clapp '01 has been selected as the new cohost for Chick Singer Night, Nashville. On the first Tuesday of every month at Nashville's famous Bluebird Cafe, Clapp, Shane Foshee, and Jaclyn Brown '88 will cohost the showcase for female artists. Visit www.chicksingernight.com.

In August, alumni Beth Schackne '97 and John Pavlovsky '91 organized a Nashville Alumni Chapter night at the Nashville Sounds (a minor league baseball affiliate of the Pittsburg Pirates) at Greer Stadium in Nashville.

Alum Neil Konouchi '01, along with Beth Schackne, Jesse Lingo '03, John Mattick '99, Dani Amendola '92, Melissa Bauer '03, Alan Green '90, Kellee Gooch '03, and David Robinson '96, have begun organizing a series of industry-issues round-table meetings. The meetings will feature a diverse group of panelists including artists, songwriters, producers, A&R reps, music publishers, managers, and studio and road musicians. Each will offer their own perspective on a designated topic and involve alumni attendees in the discussion.

Nicole "Nyk" Porter '01 was hired at Vector management owned by Ken Levitan. Other alumni working full time at Vector include Beth Schackne, Brian Gilbert '03, and Chris Clapp '03. Marissa Knaub '04 also works there as an intern. Congratulations to Greg Becker '95, a songwriter for Famous Music, who recently had his songs cut by Rascal Flatts, LeAnn Rimes, Heather Dawn and Jessica Robinson. Jesse Terry '04 has signed as a staff songwriter to Mashville, owned by Mark Alan Springer.

The chapter welcomes new alumni Yvan Bing, Laura Jansen, Jeff Miller, and Gabe Wright '04 and says goodbye and good luck to songwriter Rob Giles, who has moved from Nashville to Los Angeles.
