Between head-bopping performances described by Le Figaro as filled with “joyous fury” and laughter-infused writing sessions, drummer and singer Lilou Chance finds harmony in the buzz of musical creation.
The 23-year-old French artist believes that groove and vibes are at the heart of her musical approach. After 15 years of experience in Paris, Chance expanded her scene to the US, attending Berklee College of Music, where she found her voice as songwriter and producer.
Endorsed by her favorite drum brands, Gretsch and Paiste, Chance had a whirlwind year touring with the Phénix Circus. While maintaining her studies at Berklee, she played 60 arena shows across France between 2021 and 2022. Performing overseas, she brought her multi-instrumentalist talents to the Massachusetts State House for the governor—and most recently, to the stage at Boston Calling, where she played in front of a crowd of 15,000.
With her latest single, “Shots,” coproduced by French producer Saint Aunay, Chance expands her sonic world into R&B and electronic pop. Inspired by artists like Jorja Smith and Tom Misch, she offers a new kind of French touch to the modern pop scene. Reflecting on the song, Chance says: “‘Shots’ is my way of saying I’m doing my best; I’m also making mistakes, and that’s okay.”
