Berklee Piano/Keyboard Workshop

What's the program like?

Be prepared for a full immersion in piano, keyboard, and Hammond organ performance. Develop your skills in improvisation, performance, chord theory ensemble playing, and synthesizer technology through this dynamic workshop. You’ll be exposed to a variety of styles, including jazz, hip-hop, rock, R&B, pop, funk, Latin, and fusion.

The program will provide practical playing experience through a variety of performance activities, including ensembles with full rhythm sections, performance workshops, and improvisation labs. There will be nightly jam sessions so you can perform with a band in your style and try out your new ideas.

Each participant will choose one of the following electives:

  • Synthesizer Performance and Technology: Explore the technology and performing techniques involved with playing synthesizer keyboards in many styles.
  • Jazz Master Class: Learn modern jazz improvisation techniques for keyboard.
  • Hammond Class: Learn about the Hammond organ and techniques for playing jazz, blues, rock, and gospel styles.
  • New Age Music Improvisation: Learn how to improvise music in a free-form manner that doesn't require you to know chords or jazz theory.

Who are the instructors?

Workshops will be conducted by Berklee's experienced and knowledgeable Piano Department faculty members.

What's the schedule?

You will be provided a complete schedule of times and locations for all classes, clinics, performances, and special events at the time of registration.

Where will I eat and sleep?

When we have processed your application, you will be sent information about and an application for residence hall housing. Most program participants elect to stay in the Berklee residence halls. However, acceptance to the program does not guarantee a residence hall space. Space is limited.

To optimize your chances for on-campus housing, you must return the housing application immediately upon receiving it. If you are applying to the program after June 10, call the Housing Office at 617 747-2292 to find if residence hall space is still available.
