Berklee, the Recording Academy, and Arizona State University Launch Women in the Mix Study

The study, which builds on a 2019 report by Berklee and Women in Music, will help to inform diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts at the Recording Academy and in the industry as a whole.

The Berklee Institute for Creative Entrepreneurship has partnered with the Recording Academy and Arizona State University (ASU) for the launch of the Women in the Mix Study, surveying women and gender-expansive people working in the U.S. music industry. The joint study, announced earlier this year, will help to inform diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts within the Recording Academy, the industry as a whole, and among advocacy groups working in this space.

Building upon baseline results constructed from the 2019 study by Berklee and Women in Music, "Women in the U.S. Music Industry: Obstacles and Opportunities," the new study will examine overall progress since the initial report, identify where continued work is needed, include expanded gender identities, more deeply explore pathways into the industry, and look further into the roles of women in music.

Allies are invited to forward the survey to people who meet these requirements and are working in music. The comprehensive Women in the Mix Study, including the survey results, will be published in January 2022.

The survey will close on Monday, September 20, 2021.
