In Their Own Words

"I genuinely believe that each of us has unique talents and perspectives, and that we can learn from one another. The classroom is a great opportunity to share our knowledge, experience, wisdom, and perspectives. I like to use class time to share my passion for psychology, to offer opportunities to apply concepts in class, to challenge students to grow in their understanding of themselves and others, and to allow students to showcase their distinct talents and abilities. I look forward to the opportunity to learn from and interact with students in class every day, and I try to create an environment where students look forward to this opportunity as well."

"Psychology is the study of how the mind influences our thoughts, feelings, and actions; it helps us to understand why we do the things we do. This is why the study of psychology is so fundamental to everything we do every day; once we better understand ourselves, it puts us in a better position to understand others (why they might do the things they do), and to change our behavior to allow us to achieve our goals. I love psychology, and I am very passionate about teaching. I want students to be able to see how they can apply psychology in their daily lives, and I hope that when students leave the classroom, they are able to share in some of the enthusiasm for psychology that I have."

"Berklee is an amazing place to be. The atmosphere of the college is welcoming, encouraging, dynamic, and collaborative, and the administration, faculty, and staff genuinely care for students and help them to sharpen their skills while broadening their worldview. I am also continually amazed at how alive the students are; I have seen so much kindness, openness, creativity, insight, motivation, diversity, and energy on campus and in the classroom. It is exciting to belong to an institution that challenges each and every one of us to achieve our potential, while also providing the materials, environment, and encouragement to get there."

"I love studying psychology and writing music. Early in my career, I chose to use higher education to study psychology and human development while continuing to write and perform music on the side. I found that knowledge of psychology allowed me to have a more complete understanding of myself and the world around me—an understanding that I could incorporate into my creative process. Additionally, my research focuses on the benefits of positive psychology and mindfulness techniques to help individuals achieve their goals. I believe my experience with psychology and music help me to understand and better meet the needs of Berklee students in my courses."
