Piano Professor Laszlo Gardony performed at the Bar Harbor Jazz Festival in Maine, celebrating the release of his ninth album, Signature Time.

Jeff Covell


The Jeff Covell Trio, which includes Piano Professor Jeff Covell and Bass Chair Rich Appleman, and Steve Turner has reunited after 20 years. The trio performed at the David Friend Recital Hall in October and is making a new recording.


Ron Reid

This summer, Associate Professor of Contemporary Writing and Production Ron Reid performed with his Sunsteel Sextet at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Reid also played at the International Belgian Percussion Festival with Assistant Professor Dave Samuels and the Caribbean Jazz Project.

Peter Cokkinias

Music Education Professor Peter Cokkinias played woodwinds in George Gershwin's Porgy and Bess revival at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, MA. In July. Cokkinias also performed at Boston's Colonial Theatre in the pit orchestra for Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story. Cokkinias has also begun his 33rd season as the music director and conductor of the Metrowest Symphony Orchestra.

Gilson Schachnik


Associate professors Gilson Schachnik and Fernando Huergo received a Berklee faculty grant to record the new CD Mozik. The disc blends Brazilian rhythms and forms with early fusion sounds popularized by Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock. In addition to Schachnik (piano) and Huergo (bass), the CD features Mauricio Zottarelli '02 (drums), Gustavo Assis-Brasil '01 (guitar), and Yulia Musayelyan (flute).

Music Education Chair Cecil Adderley received the Academic Achievement Award from the Western Carolina University Alumni Association at a recent ceremony.

String Department Chair Melissa Howe, Woodwinds Professor Barbara LaFitte, and Composition Professor Ronald Feldman performed during this past summer's Boston Landmarks Orchestra season. The orchestra presents free classical music concerts to a diverse audience at various local-area landmarks.

Tom Stein

Professional Music Professor Tom Stein was a visiting professor at Modern Muzik Akademisi and Robert College, both in Istanbul, Turkey. Stein taught classes and workshops on a variety of topics, including music theory in performance to marketing to artist development.
