Starting in September, Berklee students and alumni will perform as part of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum’s third annual RISE music series. RISE is the museum’s popular pop, rock, and hip-hop concert series, cocurated by vocalist Shea Rose ‘11 and Simone Scazzocchio B.M. ‘10, assistant professor of contemporary writing and production. All RISE concerts take place on Thursdays, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Tickets to RISE include admission to the museum: $27 for adults; $17 for members; and $12 for students and children.

The lineup for the 2017–2018 RISE season includes:

September 7: Jacob Collier with Domi

YouTube sensation Jacob Collier will bring his one-man, multi-instrumental, multivisual music to the museum’s sonic cube, Calderwood Hall. Opening for Collier is Berklee student Domi, a keyboard innovator with a sound that combines jazz, groove, classical, hip-hop, gospel, soul, and dubstep.

October 12: Alice Smith with Cedric Jackson II

Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Alice Smith brings a mix of rock, soul, and R&B, and her musical style has been compared to Alicia Keys and Norah Jones. Berklee graduate Cedric Jackson II B.M. ‘17 will open for Smith. Jackson’s sound is influenced by artists like Bilal, Mali Music, and BJ the Chicago Kid, and brings together gospel, classical, R&B, hip-hop, and jazz to cultivate his own interpretation of soul music today.

March 22: The A-Beez and Sid Sriram with Camille Merendail

The A-Beez and Sid Sriram B.M. '12 will return to RISE on March 22. The A-Beez, a resident of Wally’s Café, is a staple of the local Boston music scene with their original sound that combines funk, R&B, jazz, and hip-hop. Sriram is an Indian-American music producer, singer, and songwriter known for merging traditional Indian music with soul. Camille Merendail, a 14-year-old Boston native who has performed at Top of the Hub and Hard Rock Café, will open the performance.

April 26: Gretchen Parlato with Mirella Costa

The final performance of RISE brings Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist Gretchen Parlato to the museum. Known for experimental techniques and using her voice as an instrument, Parlato has been described by the Boston Globe as, “a conflux where hope, sensuality, and tragedy all merge…the most original jazz singer in a generation.” Opening for Parlato is vocal powerhouse and student Mirella Costa, a Brazilian singer who crowd-funded her way to Berklee.
