Looking for a favorite to cheer on in NBC’s hit performance show, The Voice?

Berklee alumna and singer-songwriter Courtney Harrell ‘01 is one of 12 competitors remaining on the show. Harrell’s impressive list of credits includes work with or for Ariana Grande, Jessie J, Mary J. Blige, John Legend, and Anastacia, among many others. Now, Harrell has reached the top 12 on The Voice as part of Blake Shelton’s team, with the field to be further whittled down at the conclusion of the next round, held the nights of Monday and Tuesday, November 14 and 15.

Prior to her current run on The Voice, Harrell recently spoke with Berklee Today, saying, “I feel you need to live a bit in order to have something to write about. I don’t write every day—just once or twice a week. I like to come in strong. When people ask for me, they want something very specific. They know that they will get strong melody and lyrics—something worth listening to.”

Harrell grew up in Boston and first attended Berklee as a teen in the Berklee City Music® program, after which she was awarded a full scholarship to the college, where she studied in the Voice Department as a performance major.

Berklee alumni have been regular staples on The Voice, both as part of the house band and as contestants. In 2014, alumna Anita Antoinette '11 made it to the top 10 on the show. Harrell now aims to be the first Berklee alumna to win it all. This season's The Voice features industry pro judges Shelton, Alicia Keys, Miley Cyrus, and Adam Levine.
