Pablo Ziegler, the longtime pianist for late tango great Astor Piazzolla, is one of the foremost figures today in tango nuevo, an innovative style of music that blends traditional Argentine tango with American jazz. Ziegler has been pioneering the style ever since he worked with Piazzolla in the 1970s and 1980s.

On Thursday, November 10, 2016, Ziegler will bring his music to the Berklee Performance Center, playing both his and Piazzolla’s compositions in concert with a large student orchestra. The first half of the performance will feature Berklee students performing a variety of the most important tangos by Carlos Gardel and other Argentine composers.

In the second half, Ziegler will join them, along with faculty guitarist Claudio Ragazzi '84 and guest bandoneon player Hector del Curto. The first song on Ziegler's set list is “Asfalto,” his composition off the 1998 album of the same name.
