Berklee Global Jazz Ambassadors and Terri Lyne Carrington to Play Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola

The Berklee Global Jazz Ambassadors are set to take the stage at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola in New York City with special guest Terri Lyne Carrington '83, a Berklee professor and multiple Grammy-winning drum virtuoso. The group’s performance—at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, 10 Columbus Circle, New York—will be Monday, November 7, 2016, at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $35 or $10 with a valid student ID and can be reserved by phone at 212-258-9595, or on the web at jazz.org/dizzys.

The Jazz Ambassadors, five students from the college’s groundbreaking Berklee Global Jazz Institute master’s degree program, are pianist Eunjeong Hwang (Seoul, South Korea), drummer Lee Fish (Massachusetts), bassist Maxwell Salinger-Ridley (Massachusetts), trumpeter Andrew McAnsh (Toronto, Canada), and alto saxophonist Jonathan Suazo (San Juan, Puerto Rico). Carrington and Berklee professor Rick DiMuzio have mentored the group throughout the fall semester.

Drummer, composer, and bandleader Carrington has toured with music luminaries such as Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Al Jarreau, Stan Getz, David Sanborn, Joe Sample, Cassandra Wilson, Clark Terry, and Dianne Reeves. She recently returned to Boston, her hometown, where she was appointed Zildjian Chair in Performance at the Berklee Global Jazz Institute.

Carrington’s extensive recording career includes several albums she released as a leader, including the Mosaic Project, for which she won a Grammy for Best Vocal Jazz Album, and Money Jungle: Provocative in Blue, for which she won a Grammy for Best Jazz Instrumental Album, becoming the first woman ever to win a Grammy in this category. Her recording credits include work with Carlos Santana, John Scofield, Terence Blanchard, Dianne Reeves, George Duke, Nancy Wilson, Esperanza Spalding, and Geri Allen, among many others. She is the artistic director of the Berklee Beantown Jazz Festival.

Led by artistic director and Grammy Award-winning pianist Danilo Pérez, the Berklee Global Jazz Institute represents the next generation of jazz stars. Pérez designed the institute to combine musical humanitarianism with radical new ways to incite musical creativity. He once led the group of international students to the Panamanian jungle to interpret forces of nature, resulting in a jam session so primal it charmed a nearby cobra. In Boston, they visited a penitentiary to perform an inmate’s poem set to their music.

The BGJI is a training ground for artists seeking to evolve to the highest levels as musicians and as human beings, and its students are taught by masters like Pérez, Carrington, Joe Lovano, and John Patitucci, perform at world-renowned festivals, and give back through musical community service.
