When Junilda “Muñeca” Diaz, an 18-year-old Charlestown, Massachusetts resident, played bass in the Berklee City Music program’s annual scholarship concert, she was surprised to hear that there was an extra scholarship—and couldn’t believe that it was awarded to her. The eight full four-year scholarship announcements were a high point of the concert, which was emceed by comedian Sinbad. Diaz begins her four years at Berklee in September.
