PODCAST: Selah Poitier
April 12, 2016
Born in the Bahamas, Berklee student Selah Poitier began playing piano when she was four. Hailing from a family of preachers, singers, songwriters, and instrumentalists, she began performing at a young age and took up double bass at 14.
Our latest podcast features Poitier leading her own band performing at Berklee's David Friend Recital Hall on one of her originals, "I've Learned to Love Me." The bassist and vocalist is accompanied by nine other musicians, including four backing vocalists. Poitier's music fuses jazz, hip-hop, neo-soul, traditional Bahamian music, and other styles.
She performs this summer as part of Berklee's Summer in the City series.
