March 28, 2016
Terri Lyne Carrington—professor of percussion, the Zildjian Chair in Performance at Berklee's Global Jazz Institute, and three-time Grammy Award-winning recording artist—was recognized as the 2016 Honorary Member at the 42nd annual conference of the Society for American Music during a public ceremony at the Hyatt Regency in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

“I had a great time being roasted by [Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs/Provost] Larry Simpson at the Society for American Music honoree reception and dinner,” said Carrington. “It was a pleasure and an honor to be there with old and new friends, as well as family.”

Carrington’s unparalleled contributions to American music conferred a life-long membership into the society. She joins a distinguished group of luminaries including Pharoah Sanders, Loretta Lynn, Oscar Peterson, Max Roach, Gunther Schuller, John Cage, and numerous others.
