Juan Luis Guerra Scholarship to be Presented in Conjunction with the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation

A Latin music student will receive a four-year scholarship to Berklee in the name of multi-Grammy-winning singer-songwriter, composer, and producer Juan Luis Guerra.

The Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation announced that it is accepting applications for the Juan Luis Guerra Scholarship from students admitted to Berklee to attend the fall 2016 semester. The scholarship will be awarded to one student pursuing a career in Latin music. The four-year scholarship, which holds a maximum value of $200,000, will be awarded to study a bachelor's degree at Berklee. The Scholarship Committee of the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation, composed of music professionals from all walks of the music industry, will select the beneficiary.

In an effort to further music education within the Latin genres, the scholarship will be awarded to a student who not only possess a musical gift but also is facing financial hardship. Latin Grammy and Grammy winner Guerra '82 H'09 will assist in financing the scholarship that bears his name as well as announce and present the scholarship to one fortunate Berklee student.

"Our dedication to helping students from diverse backgrounds to further their musical education continues as, for the second year in a row, we are able to offer a scholarship of this magnitude and support the next generation of Latin music makers," said Manolo Diaz, vice president of the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation. "Juan Luis Guerra is not only a music legend but he is also an honorary alumnus from Berklee, whose art transcends and influences generations. We are proud to partner with Guerra and are truly grateful for his contributions to the Latin Grammy Foundation."

"As an alumnus of Berklee I understand the desire of many Latino students who wish to develop their musical gift at this wonderful school. Applications and guidelines are now available at latingrammyculturalfoundation.com. The deadline to apply is April 10, 2016, at 11:59 p.m EST. Students from the following 24 countries, who have been admitted to Berkleeā€™s 2016 fall semester, are encouraged to apply: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Spain, United States, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
