Berklee-Bred Band Wins Soccer Anthem Slot

After a national contest organized by BerkleeICE and beIN SPORTS, Cordelia and the Buffalo's song "7th Sea" became the offical beIN SPORTS Anthem for Copa America.

Powerful up-tempo music has long provided an important boost to the excitement at major soccer tournaments, from Shakira's "Waka Waka" in South America to Pitbull's "We Are One" in Brazil. This summer sees Cordelia and the Buffalo's "7th Sea" added to that list after it was named the offical anthem for beIN SPORTS's exclusive coverage of the Copa America soccer tournament, June 11–July 4, 2015. The network will broadcast the tournament to as many as 80 million U.S. households.

The opportunity arose for the Berklee-formed band when beIN SPORTS collaborated with Berklee's Institute for Creative Entrepreneurship (BerkleeICE) in the spring to create an online platform for the event. The two partners built a website that blended soccer, culture, and music. BerkleeICE students organized a hackathon to crowdsource a marketing and social media campaign before a team was selected to create the platform and populate it with anthems and crowd chants. The anthemic Cordelia and the Buffalo track earned honors as the tournament's official song after a highly contested competition.
