In a recent Artery article for WBUR, Amelia Mason went on a personal mission to discover what pop music will sound like in the future. BerkleeICE's Panos Panay joined Glenn McDonald of Spotify, Boston band the Frotations, and Berklee faculty members Prince Charles Alexander and Richard Boulanger. Mason traversed current trends such as the growth of niche genres, and the immediacy of the modern consumer market, in an attempt to grapple with the mirage of music in the future.

Panay  considered, "as artificial intelligence is beginning to make predictive assumptions about things we like and begins to service them to us, what impact will that have on the discovery of music?" Following on this thought, and its impact on the shifting landscape in the music industry, he posed the question, “Do I think the mainstream will shrink and shrink and shrink, just like it’s been shrinking?” His answer, in short? “Yes.”
