All summer long, and well past Labor Day, Berklee students liven up parks, plazas, and piers around town with free performances as part of the Summer in the City series. Now in its 11th year, the series begins in May and ends with the biggest block party in Boston, the Berklee Beantown Jazz Festival, in late September. Over the years, around 2,000 students—including performers, engineers, producers, and photographers—have lended their talents to the series, producing family-friendly shows in nearly every genre, with expert musicianship.

Each year since its inception in 2005, the series has grown to include more acts at more locations. This summer, performers appeared at 32 venues in the Greater Boston area. There's been R&B on the Harbor Islands and salsa in the South End, piano on the Boston Common and soul at the ICA. As summer enters its final month, we collected a few images that capture the essence of Summer in the City.
