March 15, 2016

Faculty, students, alumni, and guest artists will perform and present workshops and panels in the daylong Equinox Music Festival, to be held at Berklee and The Boston Conservatory on March 21. The festival is designed to demonstrate and explore the vitality of classical music and its connection to the power and potential of improvisation.

Festival codirector and Berklee Piano Department faculty member Moira Lo Bianco '12 will perform music from her latest release, Imago, in the afternoon's Concert for the Sun. The day will present a range of inventive approaches to classical music, including global and pop influences, unusual instrumentation and arrangements, and a duo featuring a trombonist and dancer.

Hailing from Italy, Lo Bianco studied at conservatories in her home country before graduating from Berklee. She has performed at several major festivals, earned a Boston Music Award nomination, launched a workshop series on improvisation for classical pianists, and recently was appointed as Young Steinway Artist and Steinway Educational Partner.

This podcast will feature three short Lo Bianco solo piano compositions—"Friduccia" (I) and "Charlie’s Adventures" (V) are dedicated to Frida Kahlo and Charlie Chaplin, respectively, and "Dear Witch" (II) is a musical portrait of Lo Bianco’s mentor, heroine, and piano teacher, Stephany Tiernan.
