Placido Domingo to be Awarded an Honorary Doctorate

Renowned tenor and international conductor, Placido Domingo, will be awarded an honorary doctorate by Berklee at its campus in Valencia on April 4, 2014.

Renowned tenor and international conductor, Placido Domingo, will be awarded an honorary doctorate by Berklee College of Music at its campus in Valencia. The event will take place on April 4, 2014 at the Teatro Martín i Soler del Palau de las Arts in Valencia.

The ceremony will feature students and professors performing in honor of Domingo. The honorary doctorate will be awarded by Berklee’s provost and senior vice president of academic affairs, Larry Simpson.

Domingo, deemed “the king of the opera” by various international publications, currently performs around the world and is the general director of the LA Opera, in California. Domingo is a prolific artist known worldwide who is recognized not only as one of the best actors and most influencing singers of all time, but also as a well-regarded orchestral conductor. 

The Spanish singer sang Handel’s Messiah with the Boston Symphony Orchestra at the beginning of his career, and his first Bohéme with the great soprano Renata Tebaldi at the Palau de les Arts.
