Midem 2017: Panos Panay Forms Part of Copyright Summit Panel
Panos Panay, cofounder of the Open Music Initiative (OMI), participated in a panel discussion regarding copyrights at Midem 2017, where the overarching theme was Building Transparent Rights Management Systems.
The Copyright Summit panel sought to highlight progress being made in rights management, as well as the people leading these efforts. Featuring representatives from Sony/ATV, SACEM, Vistex, and Featured Artists Coalition, the panel was moderated by Andy Edwards, board director of the Music Managers Forum in the United Kingdom.
As a nonprofit initiative led primarily by academic institutions, technologists, and music entrepreneurs, OMI enables proper identification of rights owners by creating an open source API protocol that companies can use to track and manage public and proprietary metadata.
