Berklee's Mediterranean Music Institute launched its own record label, MMI Recordings, on September 15 to support both Mediterranean music and the institute's own outstanding students as emerging artists in this rich tradition.

The label plans to release about four albums a year, and the initial release of each album will include 100 promotional copies artists can use to promote their music and pursue their musical careers.

The label's first release is the eponymous TalyTali by the talented duo of the same name, composed of Israeli musicians Tal Even-Tzur (piano) and Tali Rubinstein (recorder). TalyTali’s original music, heavily influenced by Israeli traditional songs and by their classical backgrounds, is complex yet accessible. It juxtaposes strong rhythms alongside simple, beautiful melodies. Their unconventional instrumentation and musical aesthetics stand out in the global jazz scene.

The five-song album will be released in September 2014 and will be available in the Stan Getz Media Center and Libarary at Berklee. The label plans to release another album in the fall semester and two in the spring.
