Berklee has named Miky Lee, vice chair of CJ Group, Asia’s leading content and media company, to its board of trustees. Lee’s strategic direction and management of CJ’s entertainment and media divisions has made it the world’s largest promoter of Korean content through the company’s one-source, multi-content strategy.

CJ was one of the founding investors in DreamWorks SKG. CJ has since built many influential companies in Korea’s entertainment and media industry: CJ CGV, the first and largest multiplex chain; CJ Media, the leading cable network operating 17 cable channels with the country’s highest combined ratings; and Mnet Media, Korea’s sole entertainment company focusing on music licensing for cable music television, distribution, and live concerts.

“We are very excited to have Miky Lee join the Berklee Board of Trustees,” said Jeff Shames, Berklee Board of Trustees chair. “She is a visionary who harnessed Korean music and culture and developed the avenues for distributing it to the rest of the world. Her accomplishments are prime examples for our entrepreneurial students who have their own visions for creating new archetypes for the industry. She will bring great knowledge about the music business from many varying perspectives."

Lee is widely recognized for her global vision. She was named a Global Leader for Tomorrow’s Community at the World Economic Forum in 1997. During the 2006 Women’s World Awards, she became the first Asian woman to receive the World Business Award. She was also selected as one of the leading executives in the film industry by Variety in its Women’s Impact Report 2006. In 2007, she received the CEO of the Year Award from the Korean Management Association for managing one of the largest companies in Korea.

Lee has a deep interest in education and cross-cultural affairs. She earned her B.A. at Seoul National University. She studied Chinese language and linguistics at Taiwan National University and Japanese language at Japan’s Keio University. Lee received her M.A. in Asian studies from Harvard University, where she served as a teaching fellow for three years in Korean language. She also studied Chinese literature and history at Fudan University, China.

Miky Lee is the grandchild of B.C. Lee, the founder of CJ and the Samsung Group.
