Conclusion: Larry Watson/Motown

August 29, 2011
Later that week, Professor Watson performed for Dr. Charles Ogletree's private in-home gala for President Obama. Mr. Gordy, director Spike Lee, and others were in attendance. Harmony Department faculty member Alonzo Harris accompanied on piano. Larry Watson is one who puts to action what our students may be able to experience under the care of our Faculty and Staff and the outstanding bridges they are able to create from their professional worlds in mentorship of our apprentices. This group represents just a snapshot of the breadth of talent that resides at Berklee. We are teeming with musical life - rooted in our legacy, which Larry Watson highlights from a musical, historical, and personal perspective. The whole company felt even more compelled by the experience after the event; with passing of iconic Motown recording artist and songwriter Nick Ashford (of Ashford and Simpson) and Motown Museum founder Esther Gordy (sister to Berry) within days of the event and each other.
