The BIRN (Berklee Internet Radio Network) launches its first major website update since the station began broadcasting in 2005. Thebirn.com now features real-time playlist information via Spinitron for each of the network’s four streaming channels: birn1, birn learn, birnCORE, and birn global; live event schedules; and viewing optimized for desktop and mobile access. The website also features weekly new music picks by the DJs, album and concert reviews, and artist interviews on its blog.

One hallmark of the BIRN is its presentation of live performances from Berklee’s venues. Events from the Red Room at Cafe 939 are broadcast several times a week on the birnCORE stream. The BIRN also hosts live in-studio performances and interviews with up-and-coming artists on its flagship program, BIRN Alive!, which airs Saturdays at 4:00 p.m. on birn1. Artists who have appeared on BIRN Alive! include Kaki King, Weakened Friends, Emily King, and Andra Day. The upcoming live broadcast schedule is below.

The BIRN is a student community and internet radio station at Berklee broadcasting commercial-free, 24/7. Birn1 features live shows hosted by students playing music of their choosing—radio by musicians for everyone. BIRN Learn features concerts, interviews, special events, and curated playlists from visiting artists, faculty, staff, and alumni. BirnCORE presents live performances and interviews from emerging and established artists; and BIRN Global features programming from Berklee’s Global Partners around the world.

BirnCORE also records and releases live music from some of today’s best independent artists and gives students the opportunity to operate an independent record label. The label has released albums by Club d’Elf, Damn Tall Buildings, Gabe Dixon, Jesca Hoop, Kaki King, Matador, and Brooke Waggoner. BirnCORE is launching a single-of-the-month series featuring songs by Berklee students recorded in the station’s studio. The first song, “The Sound,” by Hannah Siglin, will be released soon.
