The Berklee Mediterranean Music Institute and Casa Limón showcased Mediterranean music and student work through a week of events.

November 14, 2018

For the second year, Berklee musicians and the Mediterranean Music Institute joined forces with Casa Limón, a record label and production company owned and directed by Berklee faculty member Javier Limón, to host seven days of musical events in New York City.

The week included a panel discussion on modern Mediterranean music and a tribute to Cuban pianist Bebo Valdes featuring three young female pianists. The label also hosted a New York–themed songwriting contest for students, which garnered entries of various styles inspired by the city. Berklee student Martin Guas, the contest winner, earned the chance to have his original song recorded by Limón. The Casa Limón Gala, supported by the Spanish consulate, featured new musical projects with a host of Berklee student and alumni musicians.

Venezuelan vocalist Nella Rojas B.M. '15 performed a selection of songs composed by Limón for the upcoming film Everybody Knows. The film, directed and produced by Asghar Farhadi, includes Penélope Cruz, Javier Bardem, and Ricardo Darín. Rojas has a cameo in the film, and performed several of the songs with Limón and a live band.
