A native of southern Maine, Allen took Kara DioGuardi’s songwriting workshop while a student at Berklee. “Amy was one of the youngest students admitted to my class,” says DioGuardi, adding, “‘Without Me’ is a female anthem for anyone whose heart has been broken, but who hasn’t lost their power. I’m proud of Amy’s musical accomplishments thus far and look forward to hearing many more of her songs on the radio.”

During her time at Berklee, Allen also sang lead vocals on “Smoke and Mirrors,” an innovative cowrite between John Oates of Hall & Oates and eight Berklee songwriters. She formed the indie folk-pop band Amy & the Engine with several other students, performing at festivals around New England and at the college’s 2014 CMJ Music Marathon Showcase in New York City.

Allen had other professional success in 2018: she cowrote songs for Selena Gomez (“Back to You,” which was featured on the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why) and Shawn Mendes ("When You're Ready''). The latter appears on Mendes’s self-titled album, which was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Pop Vocal Album category.

Berklee Online also featured Allen in a songwriting master class with Berklee faculty member Pat Pattison in 2017.
