Berklee Blogs: Composer Tim Hare
Tim Hare B.M. '11 is the director of operations at Alibi Music Library and a freelance composer with a vast network of major players in the entertainment composition industry. Since this past spring, Hare has been sitting down with some of these composition professionals to hear their stories—and to then turn those conversations into succinct blog posts for Berklee Blogs that bring together industry wisdom and his own personal career journey.
Scoring Big Interviews
His most recent blog post found him chatting with film composer and alumnus James Sale B.M. '91, whose scoring credits include The Lego Movie, Hotel Transylvania 2, and Transformers: The Last Knight. Other posts have highlighted folks who have worked on projects such as the films X-Men Apocalypse, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Get Out, and the kids' show Yo Gabba Gabba!
Hare's posts often reflect on what he learned while majoring in contemporary writing and production, and also the twists and turns that came after Berklee. Speaking about his own road to the industry, he wrote in a post about his conversation with music editor Joseph Bonn that he took a pay cut to learn the skills he needed to make it in film and TV. He's since landed his compositions with clients such as ABC and CBS. "If we hit a wall in our career," he says, "it might take some difficult sacrifices to make a change, but if it is for your dream, go for it."
