A student, a Harmony and Jazz Composition Department faculty member, and a prominent alumna will perform at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum as part of the RISE concert series this spring. RISE is the museum’s popular pop, rock, and hip-hop concert series, cocurated by vocalist Shea Rose ‘11 and Simone Scazzocchio B.M. ‘10, assistant professor of contemporary writing and production. All RISE concerts take place on Thursdays, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Tickets to RISE include admission to the museum: $27 for adults; $17 for members; and $12 for students and children.

March 22: The A-Beez, Emily Elbert, and Camille Merendail

On March 22, the A-Beez will return to RISE after a memorable performance in 2017, with an opening set by Berklee alumna Emily Elbert B.M. ’11, a soul-folk musician rooted in activism and introspection. The A-Beez, a resident of Wally’s Café featuring Aaron Bellamy and faculty member Amy Bellamy, is a staple of the local Boston music scene with their original sound combining funk, R&B, jazz, and hip-hop. All concertgoers at the March 22 performance will receive a free copy of the band’s second studio album, Say Goodbye. Elbert has performed her solo music from four albums across the world and has used her platform to raise funds and awareness for various humanitarian and environmental causes. Camille Merendail, a 14-year-old Boston native with a diverse dance and musical background, will also open the performance.

April 26: Gretchen Parlato and Mirella Costa

The final performance of RISE will bring Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist Gretchen Parlato to the museum on April 26. Parlato is known for her experimental techniques and the use of her voice as an instrument. Opening for Parlato is vocal powerhouse and current Berklee student Mirella Costa, a Brazilian singer who crowdfunded her way to the college. She was the recipient of the first Gifted Scholarship Award presented by the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation in 2015.
