May 20, 2008
Kendra Savage, 21, of Crystal Springs, MS, received a full scholarship to attend Berklee's 5-Week Program . The scholarship was the grand prize for contestants her age in the Robert Johnson Superstar Talent Showcase Finale in April. The event was produced and hosted by the Robert Johnson Blues Foundation.

Playing a key role in selecting the scholarship recipient was Ron Carbo, of Clinton, MS, a 1990 grad of Berklee with a degree in film scoring and music production. He also holds a masters in education from Jackson State University. Carbo has worked with Wynton Marsalis, New Kids on the Block, and Smokey Robinson, among many others.

Currently, Carbo is working with underserved youth in the Jackson area, teaching production, recording, songwriting, and keyboard skills in his studio, Soul Kitchen. One project with the teens has proven very successful. They created a commercial for the MCDC Abstinence The Best Choice program that won a 2007 Telly Award.
