A member of the Berklee faculty, Lovano is also one of 25 alumni nominated for Grammy Awards in 2012.

Joe Lovano '72 is a Grammy-winning saxophonist, composer, and arranger. In 2010, he earned the "triple crown" distinction from Down Beat magazine, rating tops in the annual critics poll for best jazz artist overall, best tenor saxophonist, and best band. He's one of 25 alumni earning 30 Grammy nominations, including members of Dream Theater; Gillian Welch '92; Susan Tedeschi '91; and Mark Kelley '03, who earned his as bassist in the Roots.

Lovano earned his Best Jazz Instrumental Album nomination for Bird Songs, a collection of Charlie Parker tunes. Bird's "Passport" is the first track on the album.
