Parson began studying violin and classical music at age eight in his home of New Orleans. He received his first violin with the Louis Armstrong Foundation's 1997 Golden Horn Award; he was later awarded a cello by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. Malcolm has performed with numerous orchestras and ensembles, often as the featured soloist.
