High School Bands Survive Berklee Battle

Eyeball Kid from Kingston, Massachusetts was crowned the winner of the 2008 WBCN/Berklee College of Music Battle of the High School Bands. Twenty-four bands were chosen from more than 100 entries, and five made it to the finals, held on Saturday, April 12, at Harper's Ferry in Allston. It was the closest competition in the contest's fourteen years, with four different bands receving first place votes.

Prizes included gift certificates from Newbury Comics and Daddy's Junky Muisc, studio time from After Midnight Productions, guitars from First Act Guitar Studios, cymbals from Zildjian, and music equipment from Minor Chord and Vater Percussion. Ten participants were also offered scholarships toward Berklee summer programs: Mike Avakien, Tyler Hudson, and Jordan Ferreire from the band Mind Walk; Mar MeEtee from Red Rock; Sarah Shanahan from the Transitions; Jessica Prouty and Cody Nilsen from the Jessica Prouty Band; Alex Graziano from Foreign Titles; Adrian Aiello from Zephyr; and Zak Dixon from Eyeball Kid.
