Curriculum

The Mediterranean Music Institute (MMI) provides curriculum in the performance, composition, and study of Mediterranean music and culture, including classes, ensembles, workshops, and clinics, at Berklee’s Boston, Massachusetts and Valencia, Spain campuses. The Institute also offers a minor in Mediterranean music culminating in a semester in Valencia.

Middle Eastern Fusion

This advanced performance ensemble is geared towards experimenting with different traditional and contemporary music styles from North Africa, the Middle East, the Balkans, and the Mediterranean, including Lebanese, Egyptian, Turkish, Algerian, Bulgarian, and traditional Gypsy styles (e.g., muwashshah, sama'i, kopanitsa, etc.).

Flamenco Vocal Ensemble

This amazing experience showers vocalists from all over the world with the sweet and sour colors of flamenco singing. Under the direction of renowned producer, singer, and guitar player Javier Limón, singers internalize everything from the most simple to the most intricate flamenco forms. Flamenco Music: Composition and Arranging

This course examines the concepts and techniques of writing flamenco music, a vital and growing contemporary music genre. The course covers the origins of the various styles of flamenco and their influences, primary flamenco composers, an overview of popular lyrics, and common flamenco composition and arranging techniques.

Flamenco Summer Program
