Welcome to Benefits Open Enrollment

October 2019

Dear faculty and staff,

Welcome to your annual Benefits Open Enrollment. All of the necessary information you need to make your benefit elections for 2020 can be found on the Benefits Open Enrollment 2020 page. Among other items, you will find the following:

  • The employee benefits guide
  • Benefit rate sheets
  • Workday's Open Enrollment guide
  • What’s new for 2020

Benefits Open Enrollment will begin October 14, 2019, and continue through November 4, 2019. Any changes or elections will become effective January 1, 2020. Your 2020 benefit elections will be completed in the Workday system. Simply go to Workday, and click on the "Open Enrollment Change" inbox item.

If you do not enter Workday to make any changes, all of your current benefit elections will remain in place with the exception of any Flexible Spending Account (FSA) deduction you currently have. If you wish to have either a Health Care or a Dependent Care FSA election in 2020, you must make an active election during Benefits Open Enrollment.

Berklee has been committed to providing high-quality health care plans at reasonable, competitive rates despite the fact that national health care costs have been steadily increasing. Over the last five years, the national average annual increase in health care costs has been approximately 7 percent. Berklee’s increase in premiums for this same period of time remains lower than national averages.

Berklee will continue to pay 65 percent of the full cost of the premiums for medical and dental insurance coverage. Please see the updated 2020 rate sheets below. While our health care plan premiums will increase slightly, we are pleased to inform you that the dental plan costs will remain the same with no increase in premiums for 2020.

Our benefit plan designs will remain the same, and all copays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket maximums will remain the same. In addition, we are pleased to inform you that we are adding additional acupuncture and hearing benefits for your review consideration.

If you enroll in Berklee’s benefit plans, please be sure to take full advantage of all that our plans have to offer. Annual check-ups, screenings, proper preventative care, and overall attention to wellness and healthy living are especially important. Please check the faculty/staff newsletter and the Benefits page on a regular basis for health tips and information on any upcoming wellness programs or events, like the Benefits Fair being held on October 10 in the David Friend Recital Hall between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

If you have questions, we will be having walk-in office hours several times a week during Benefits Open Enrollment. You can also send your questions to benefits@berklee.edu.
