Living Learning Communities
Living Learning Communities (LLC) are residential areas or floors for like-minded students to engage in directed areas of study outside the classroom. Each LLC will have a specific educational focus. Signing up for an LLC is a commitment to the ideals of that area and to the other residents of that community. If selected, you will be held to the standards of the community. While in an LLC, you will be encouraged to share the community's events and discussions with the wider college culture. Participation in LLCs is limited to two semesters.
Social Justice Community—270 Commonwealth Ave., 5th floor
Power, Privilege, and Equity in the Human Condition
This LLC will explore roles, stereotypes, and power dynamics surrounding race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, class, religion, ability, citizenship, political ideology, and other identities. There will be an initial focus on gender-neutral housing in this LLC. We will use the lens of social justice to examine these and related topics and develop meaningful, intentional, and open discussion. Interested residents should be open-minded and intent on making positive changes at the college. Participants will use readings, movies, current events, classes/presentations, and work projects or service days to learn about and promote social justice.
Health and Wellness Community
Total Well-Being of the Individual
The Health and Wellness LLC will focus on various aspects of personal health, exploring the physical, mental, sexual, emotional, environmental, intellectual, spiritual, and occupational. The community area will uphold a substance-free agreement for residents who choose not to be surrounded by the pressures of peers or substances. Interested residents should be prepared to undertake a year-long curriculum of movies, readings, discussions, classes/presentations, and work projects or service days to learn about yourself and promote wellness lessons to the larger college community.
