Back to Berklee Fall 2020 Guitar Department Information
In this video, you'll hear about the Berklee Performance Division's plan to deliver our comprehensive music curriculum in an engaging online environment for fall 2020.
Letter from the Chairs
Hello Berklee Guitarists!
We are looking forward to being with you for our remote fall 2020 semester at Berklee College of Music. We’ve enjoyed working with those of you who are enrolled in the summer semester, and we’re impressed with your work. We’ve missed those of you who have been away for the summer, and we look forward to formally welcoming our incoming class.
The things most on our minds are: the importance of your work with your faculty; our connections with each other in the department, division, and college; the opportunity this remote platform provides for our ability to adapt as professional musicians; and supporting you in your degree plan.
Our chairs and faculty have designed a remote curriculum for our lessons and courses that will delve into their essential elements, as you expect, and will prepare you for the remote aspects of our profession. All faculty will have virtual office hours, and we look forward to meeting you there. Our virtual Guitar Office is open each weekday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Please email us with questions, or for a Zoom appointment with chairs and coordinators.
We’ve adapted our department’s events for our virtual campus, and will have a full schedule of master classes as well as guest and faculty artist clinics, senior recitals, student club meetings, and our Solo/Duo Faculty Guitar Night. Our Performance Division is coming together under the theme Healing the World Through Music (A Call to Action). In the midst of these complex times, we will collaborate across the division in events and curricula that engage technology to foster connection and community—and inspire music that expresses your unique voices. In addition, our performance, writing, and education divisions will hold weekly events open to all of us. Remote work has always been an integral part of our profession, and our virtual campus will allow us the opportunity to direct our focus there.
Our work together and our relationships are at the core of your education and the creative opportunities you will find and develop with your music. We encourage you to stay on track in your degree plan, and to stay engaged with your guitar study and with faculty in labs, ensembles, and lessons. Take advantage of the part-time option, if that assists you. Get in touch with us in the office if it would help to go through your options.
Send us your videos for our department’s social media channels. We would like to promote your recitals, projects, and informal playing. Follow us for daily posts from students, faculty, chairs, and alumni on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter; look for @berkleeguitardepartment.
We are looking forward to seeing and hearing you!
